The Viking women's team finished 10th out of 20 teams at the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate this week, shooting 36-over 612 for the two rounds at the 6,087-yard Golf Club of Estrella outside Phoenix, AZ.
"We just didn't finish strong today and that cost us a few spots," said coach Bo Stephan after a disappointing second-round 307 pushed the team three spots down the leaderboard from its overnight seventh-place position. "I think overall I saw more good than bad this tournament. We know what we need to work on, and have some time to practice before our next tournament."
Leading the Vikings were Audrey Orem and Jenn Paul who finished tied for 19th on seven-over 151. Nicole Miller tied for 43rd on 155, Hannah Drake was tied for 57th on 158, and Stephanie Sewell came in tied for 63rd on 159.
Tarleton State won the tournament on eight-over 584 - 15 strokes better than second-place California Baptist and Regis. Cal Baptist's Laura Scrivner and Regis's Mary Weinstein shared medalist honors on three-under 141.
The Vikings return to action October 7-8 at the Saint Martin's Fall Invitational at Olympia Golf & Country Club and will host the WWU Invitational at Bellingham Golf & Country Club October 10-11.
