Paul, the 2014-15 GNAC co-Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year has finished in the top ten in all five of her tournaments this season, and nine of 14 in her career. "Jenn just played a real solid round today where her scorecard didn’t have many holes in it,” said head coach Bo Stephan. “She was consistent all day long, all tournament really."
Paul's tremendous performance wasn't quite enough to help the team into first place, however. With rounds of 17-over 305 and six-over 294, the Vikings finished second out of 13 teams, seven shots behind Sonoma State. Tarleton State came in third, seven shots behind Western.
WWU entered the tournament ranked 27th in the NCAA Division II GolfStat rankings, but finished ahead of No. 12 Tarleton State, No. 14 Cal Baptist, No. 15 St. Mary’s (TX) and No. 21 Academy of Art.
“It was a fun day out on the course when you are looking at the scoreboard and having people follow you in the hunt,” added Stephan. “The entire team did great today and really put themselves in position to score well. We’ll build off this performance and keep working to get better.”
Senior Kristen Hansen recorded her second top ten of the season finishing eighth with a 36-hole total of five-over 149. Freshman Stephanie Sewell was tied for 13th on eight-over 152, Brooke Branigan came in tied for 40th on 158, and Audrey Orem was T46 on 160.
The Vikings next play in two weeks (March 21-22) at the Otter Invitational hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay at Bayonet & Blackhorse GC in Seaside, CA.
