What a thrill for WWU and local Bellingham golfers to play in local qualifying events for the US Open to be held at Chambers Bay GC June 18-21. In yesterday's 18-hole qualifier at the Home Course in Dupont, former Viking Jake Koppenberg came closest to advancing after missing out in a seven-for-two playoff having finished with an even-par 72.
Current Western player Kyle Schrader shot 74 and tied for 19th, Dylan Stensland was T32 after a 76, former Viking Sandy Vaughan also finished tied for 32nd, Bellingham golfer Cody Roth who begins his Viking career in the fall tied for 53rd on 78, and Chris Hatch was tied for 75th following an 80.
At Wine Valley GC in Walla Walla today, Mat Rawitzer came in tied for 13th after a 76.
