Blog 329, 5/7/15 - Vikings Finish 19th at Regionals

On the final day of the NCAA Division II South Central/West Regional at Hiddenbrooke GC in Vallejo, Calif. the Vikings were unable to rise above the 19th place they had occupied for the previous two days. A final round 31-over 319 gave the team a total of 94-over 958 - 71 shots behind winner CSU-Monterey Bay which finished 19 shots better than Sonoma State in second.
Leading the Vikings was sophomore Chris Hatch who closed with a three-over 75 for a 54-hole total of 13-over 229, good for a share of 31st place. Mark Strickland, playing in his final event for the Vikings, tied for 80th on 241 following a final round 83. Brennan Emory shot a final-round 79 to finish on 244 and tie for 88th, Kyle Schrader was 102nd on 252, and Kyle Lindor tied for 103rd on 253.
Sharing individual honors were Colorado-Colorado Springs's Patrick Skakel and CSU-Monterey Bay's Ray Richards who tied on one-over 217. Skakel, whose team was not among the top five finishers who advance to the National Championship at Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Conover, N.C. in two weeks' time, did earn an individual spot at the tournament along with Josh Aguilar of Dallas Baptist.
The stroke average from 323 completed rounds on the 6,747-yard course, 40 miles north-east of San Francisco, was 78.27
