Blog 324, 4/21/15 - Vikings Third After Day One in Coeur d'Alene

mstrick Western Washington University is third out of five teams after two rounds of the eighth annual Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men’s Golf Championship at the Coeur d'Alene Resort in Coeur d'Alene, ID. The Vikings shot an opening 294 and followed it with 288 to finish the day on 14-over 582 - 24 strokes behind a dominant Simon Fraser University four of whose players are in the top five on the individual leaderboard.
The Clan posted impressive scores of 277 and 281 on the 6,803-yard course with Bret Thompson firing a 68 and 67 to open a four-shot lead over teammate John Mikotic (69-70).
Defending champion Northwest Nazarene is second in the team standings on 581 (287-294), while Saint Martin’s is fourth on 587, and Montana State Billings fifth on 594.
Top performer for the Vikings on day one was Mark Strickland (right) who shot 71, 70 to finish Monday fourth in the individual standings. Kyle Lindor is in a four-way tie for eighth on 145, Chris Hatch is tied for 12th on 146, Anthony Allen is 19th on 152, and Kyle Schrader is 20th on 153.
