Blog 319, 10/6/14 - WWU Finishes Third at Golfweek Div II Invitational

kyleschraderwwuWith a three-round total of seven-over 871 on the Crosswater course at Sunriver in Oregon, Western Washington University finished third from seven teams in the Golfweek Division II Invitational at the weekend.
With a Sunday best three-over 291 to finish the tournament, the Vikings wound up four shots adrift of CSU-Stanislaus in second and seven behind winner Simon Fraser University which had carded a tournament-best 276 in the second round.
“Today was similar to our other rounds," said WWU coach Luke Bennett. "We struggled at the start but showed a lot of fight. I’d say the difference for us was our putting. The greens are very fast and if the speed isn’t right it can hurt you.”
Senior Kyle Schrader (right) was Western's top performer finishing fourth on the individual leaderboard after a final-round 69. He completed the three rounds on two-under 214 - a shot behind two players tying for second and four back of CSU-Stanislaus's Anthony Manguray.
Mark Strickland and Chris Hatch tied for fifth on 217. Anthony Allen was 23rd on 225, and Brennan Emory finished 25th on 228.
