The winning Vikings.
WWU started the 2014-2015 season in splendid fashion over the weekend winning the St. Martin's Invitational at Olympia Country Club, with sophomore Anthony Allen tieing for medalist honors.
With scores of of 282, 272 and 284, the Vikings completed the tournament on 14-under 838 and six strokes clear of second-placed Simon Fraser University. British Columbia was third on 850.
“This was a phenomenal start for us,” said WWU coach Luke Bennett. “I couldn’t be happier. To come out and shoot even or under par in all three rounds was terrific.”
Allen, from Arlington, shot a 54-hole total of six-under 207 to share the individual title with UBC's Evan Holmes.
"Anthony is a good ball striker," said Bennett, "but his strength is his putting and he did an excellent job on some very slippery greens."
Sophomore Chris Hatch finished in a tie for third alongside SFU's Bret Thompson on 208.
The other Viking team members were Kyle Schrader, Brennan Emory and Mark Strickland who had a wonderful summer which included qualifying for the US Amateur at Atlanta Athletic Club and finished with a tie for second at the Bellingham Amateur at Lake Padden. Strickland came in tied for seventh on 210, Schrader was tied for 14th on 215 and Emory was T26 on seven-over 220.
